Diagnosing excessive smoke

My cousins new to him RM125 smokes pretty bad. following him in the woods, the exhaust doesnt smell like pure Klotz exhaust. it blubbers a bit on top end and doesnt clear out even when i rode it and beat the tar out of it for 20 minutes. it could still be burning the old 2 stroke oil out of the bottom end and causing the mixed smell, but idk.
it isnt fouling plugs (yet), but it was ridden for 3.5 hours on the same plug.
so, obviously, its one of 2 things:
Bad jetting
bad crank seal
draining the trans oil and running it should give me a good idea of which one is causing the problem, correct?

If the smoke is more white than blue, I'd bet on the primary drive oil seal...

oil seal. i had the same problem. at first i thought it was the pipe full of oil because the previous owner had the jetting super rich.......i quickly realized it was a crank seal. theres several ways to tell: one way is to take the plug out and smell it, also you will have ALOT of whiteish smoke that never goes away no matter how hard you rev it because its constantly sucking oil.

ROTFLMAO! oil injection at its finest!
i am also pretty sure its a crank seal, but ill find out more when i drain the trans tomorrow. as long as noone has anything to say against testing by using this method......
the trans is shot anyways, it finds a neutral between 2nd and 3rd, and 3rd and 4th, and its almost impossible to shift fast from 1st to second, AND it falls out of neutral into gear when you push it around. and the case is broke and re-welded on one side (which may account for shifting issues) just waiting to score a whole bottom end on Ebay for cheap.
thing is a POS, but it was his buddies, and was apart getting the top end rebuilt, so we assumed the rest was good. until we filled the trans with oil to the proper level, and it all leaked out of the poor weld in the case.....paid 1200 for it, MAYBE worth 600........
so, if anyone comes across CHEAP RM125 parts for a year 2000 (and the rest of the range, i believe down to 94?) LET ME KNOW

he does now. problem is, he already paid 1200 for the fucker. he cant get half that out of it. the top end IS new, but thats all i know for sure. i can probably get a bottom end for less than 150, do some parts swapping, and have a good motor/trans. and at that point, i will KNOW its done properly, and it will be a good keeper. but, i gotta wait for the right deal to come along to get the parts, or it isnt worth it at all.
the blown fork seals and chain/sprockets are trivial.

yeah, well aware he got screwed in the ass. but, it's cheaper to hunt parts and fix this one than to try to sell it and get a different one, provided the right deals come along. i figure by the time the fork bushings/seals, chain and sprockets, and bottom end is replaced, he will have 1500 in the bike.
versus selling it, getting, lets say 500 cause after a test ride, aint nobody wanting it cause its shit tastic shifting, then save another 700 ish to get another bike.
so, dump 300 more into the current one, OR sell, save 700 and get a different one. and who knows what lieele things another one may need :/
at least, when its done, it will be solid. hes planning on keeping this one quite a while, so eh.
problem is that he started paying for it when it was apart and got it paid for right about when it got reassembled with the new top end. yeah, he learned a valueable lesson. i told him to wait till i took it for a test ride.....

welp, after draining the trans and running it for about 2 minutes, revving it up and whatnot, then taking it for a 2 minute beat down, it still didnt clear out in the slightest. definitely the jetting.

lmfao! nah, that tranny would last at least 20 minutes before it died without oil. trust me, my other cousin's tranny plug fell out, and it was rode at LEAST 20 minutes without oil before it started SCREAMING. took it apart, the gear on the promary shaft was makin the noise, but it wasnt torn up. oiled it, re assembled, filled with oil, and its been perfectly fine ever since.
but it doesnt matter, cause i just scored a near complete bottom end off Ebay for $217. only thing missing is the flywheel cover and the clutch cover, both of which are good on the bike we currently have. guy has over 200 transactions at 100% feedback, so i'd say the guy is reputable. auction said the trans was smooth and worked properly, and the cases werent cracked, so we will see. the rest of the stuff is just a bonus! damn thing popped up overnight, it wasnt there yesterday. not to mention, sets of trans gears for this year go for around 100-150 by themselves, not including forks/drum. and we still needed a left side case lmao. hopefully, this will fix the smoking too, but im not counting on it because im convinced at this point its the jetting.
