just got my top end back from Glen, new sleeve with Wiseco piston and rings. can't get him on the phone and I have a question. he put one black dot on one ring and 2 dots on the other with a note:
NOS. up
1st=1
2nd=2
not sure what the dif is but I want to put this together tonight. assume by "NOS up" he menas black dots go up? assume by 1st he means lower ring and 2nd is upper ring? any idea? hate to be this ignorant but what the hell.

1st is usually the top ring
he will have gapped the rings for you, square em up in the bore and check 'em (cuz you should on any engine anytime after anyone but yourself has because you're the guy assembling it) the one with less gap is the 2nd ring, usually bottom

Glen did the same with mine. Numbers up, 1 is the top, 2 is the bottom ring.

it's the, "you should" part that gets ya everytime.
But hey, I learned that the bottom ring should have a smaller end gap.

got the top end buttoned up last night. next question, can I replace the countershaft seal from the outside, without removing the left side cover? looks like it can be done but the manual does not address this method.
also, I'm going to remove the right side cover to clock the kickshaft over so my kicker doesn't touch the alum frame spar. anything to look out for here?
thanks

countershaft seal isnt a problem, grab the steel collar onthe shafts, pull it out, flick the seal out with a screwdriver + stuff another in
I'd written down the kicker indexing trick but cant find it, 4Z did it recently, maybee he remembers exactly
