A friend of mine is riding one of destry abbots race bikes in the score series and is currently third in class 30- he took a spin on an cr500af that was built for Mike Lorroco.
His conclusion was that the cr had more power than the KX. We have had the motor apart and it has a wicked port job and a bunch of epoxy stuffed in the transfer ports.
I know this debate has been thrown around for a long time so I thought it is good to hear and opinion from a top rider.

Sounds like an Eric Gore motor? They don't live to far apart.

it is to redirect the charge towards the plug instead of out the exhaust

yup, theres a big re-direct that needs to happen to the fish-hook end of the port above the reed side of the cylinder

...so the question is, "is a CR motor ported for Mike [LaRocket] Larroco faster than a KX motor ported for Destry Abbott?" Well beings how Mike was the '93 500cc MX Champ and likes his 500s to have crazy sick amounts of power, whereas Destry is a champion off road rider...I'm guessing the KX is ported for broader power delivery and not sheer horsepower but the CR motor in comparison has had all the stops pulled
