Cool article, the only problem with the crf 500 is that that big bore will blow up after only 3 months or 25 hours. I had 2 that shrapnled. But the two stroke will stand up to the test of time. They are far more reliable. Has anayone ever scene an article of Mike LaRoccos 02 cr 500af? The reason i ask, his old bike is in my shop right now for a top end.

I've got the issue, I thought it was honest and well done. I agree with the key points the author made. There's a difference between "Most Fun" and "Most Effective". I will argue that the 500AF can't be every bit as effective, but I understand most riders (readers) would have difficulty making the switch.
high velocity I know very well the article you mention. I've been looking for it for years...I believe it's the only US publication of these bikes I don't own. I read it in a store (Racer X?) and was excited they were able to get factory riders to put some laps on it. I remember LaRocco saying how impressed he was with the bike and enjoyed it much more than his factory Kawasaki's. He would have liked the motor to hit harder than the CR does though...

His old bike that i have here in the shop is an 02 service honda. The customer that has the bike has the title that has LaRoccos name on it. Ive ridden this bike and can tell you it hits verry hard with the tom morgan ported cylinder in it.The bike also has A- kit showa suspension on it .

Good read as well...now if they had a suitable rider for the AF, he woulda worked the CRF. One other article mentioned that with the proper rider, the 450 wouldnt stand a chance and that the 450's make lazy riders...I agree. Also - too bad there is no mention of reliability...that would def. seal the deal for anyone "looking"....

Isn't this the article where the 450 rider says this CRF500 was the fastest bike he'd ever ridden and couldn't figure out how the 500AF holeshotted him?

My buddy has a 09 yzf450 and my 500AF is faster then it in 4th. That's with his bike geared to the max. There is nothing like 500 power.
