87 or 97 motor in conversion?

If you had a choice between an 87 or 97 motor [both rebuilt bearings/seals/clutch/top/etc.] to use in an 05 CRF450 conversion, which would you choose and why if I might ask.

97 is better in my opinion. The 87 has issues with the pipe hitting the reed and the coolant hose. 97 has a stronger clutch also.

the 89+ engines are an easier fit with no machine work required in the rear bushing, or special hose from waterpump to jug

My bad: Incomplete info.
The bike is already converted and has the 87 in it but I also have the 97.
I can swap motors.
Put the 97 back in the 97 roller and keep/sell.
Use either and keep the other for a spare.
Do my own damm conversion this winter and use one of the things.

I'm buying a CR with an 87 motor in it.
Should I run it with that motor or swap it for

Both motors have been re-built.

Sorry dude.
I got you now, I would shove the 97 in it for sure.
The same reasons as listed above and the parts will be around longer than the early engines.
That is unless you are happy with what you have got, then don't change a thing.
Your bike you enjoy it how you want.

if its in there i'd run it, at the worst you have to change up the clutch case cuz the water pump on 85-89s rott, not a big deal it can be done in the bike.
the 87 has more power so i'd keep it in there. My 03 250 chassis has 87ish stuff in it aswell.

Thanks, I know how annoying it to answer noob questions. I feel the same way much of the time when faced with basic questions relating to my profession on BBs
The 87 has a new WP housing so hopefully the rot issue is in check.

Having two motors is great, get the one put together and when the other needs work swap em out.
You can never have enough spares, unless you only ride a few times a year.

I don't think anyone finds it annoying answering questions no matter who asks.
More to the point would be, they don't like answering questions to be completely ignored and they take no notice of the information they were just given.
So it is not what is asked, it is what is done with the information given.
The reason poeple answer noob questions is to help with the learning curve, save money and time, most of all save damage to everything and everyone.
You listen to what you are being told poeple will keep answering questions.
