1st gen _vs_ 2nd gen

could i get some feedback from you all, what is the better way to go? heres what i have. a 1st gen cr125 and soon a 2nd gen cr250. i know the 125 takes more work than a 1st gen 250. what about the amount of labor when compared to a 2nd gen 250? also, would forks swap from a 1st to 2nd gen as well as the other way around? thanks in advance

You're better off going the 2nd gen route IMO. It requires a tad more work on the front mounts and the Y section but you dont have to fuss with the tank. Forks wont swap over IIRC because they're a different diameter. And the Gen1 125 will require a whole new cradle to be built because it was smaller than the one used on the 250. See Danny's Gen1 thread here:

See my build for Gen2 thread here:

Good Luck!

I'd do a gen-2 250 ahead of a gen-1 250 let alone a 125. do the gen-2 250 and you'll be happier. the coolant hoses and gas tank are way easier on the gen-2, the suspension is better, the swingarm bolt spacing is the same, only you have the Y to deal with on the gen-2, but w/ a gen'1 125 you'll have to make a whole new craddle. The gen-2 250 will also have the lower mounts line up.

ok, so now i have my 01' cr250 roller. this will be the platform for my conversion. ill keep the 1st gen 125 a 125 for now but i have a 94' 125 engine with a gore 144 kit, i just have to see about getting that back from my bro? the question i have is, my 01' came with an 03' tank. i like the 03' shrouds better than the 01'. tanks should swap simply, yes_no? what about the air box? are the sub frames the same on 01'-03' ? i am more of a fan when it comes to the looks of 03' than the 01' not to be mistaken, function is #1 on my list. thanks

by the way, anyone looking for some 94' cr125 suspension parts? :?:

00-01 are directly compatible, hence Gen2. 02-07 are Gen3. I know with some modification, you can fit Gen3 plastics. I would do it myself - but am too lazy to go thru the effort - even though they look better I think. I am not sure about tank compatibility. I can say try it and report back - I am curios to know myself.
