Kickstart Levers - Will A KX lever fit my CR?

I'm having no luck finding an original '87/'88 kickstart lever. 
I'm in the process of rebuilding an '85 engine to put it into an '88 chassis and have 2 '85/'86 kickstart levers.
I hate the position of the '85/'86 levers as I've got to position my foot at a funny angle to avoid smacking my boot off the side number board.
I've been looking to find an alternative and KX 250 kickstart levers from the mid '90's look to be a similar shape to the '87/'88 CR500.
Does anyone know if the KX lever will fit the CR?
Do the kickstart shafts the same diameter and spline pattern?
