can anyone tell me what grade of aluminium the standard cr crf frames are made of or where to start lookingfor the relevent info?

As far as I know its the 6061 T6,same as what everyone makes the new frame rails from.Didnt you mention Atlas metals has that stuff in Kal ? Cant say for sure,thats just through the grapevine.....

I've heard that different parts are different grades. like some parts are t7 and others t6... kinda weird..

frame rails are 6061 t6
most of the cast on crf's is said to be 6000 series alloy
only honda knows for sure

yeah i did say that because i got the last lenght i want to know what the rest of the frame is, if the rest of the frame is 6000 sieries ali then there is no reason to use 6061 t6

I had my Y piece from my 04 CRF250 zapped at work and it was definitely 7XXX series. It was done with a machine that is calibrated and used for flight hardware, so I'll be satisfied with the results. I didn't zap any of the small tube like the down tube cradle so I wouldn't be surprised if it was 6xxx series.

this is the delema 6000 sieries chemical comp is magnesium and silicon
7000 sieries is mainly zinc and the t6 part is the temper
i aproached a supplier for more 6061 and their answer was its not a stock item anywhere and if we wanted it i would have to order 500kg of it thats a lot of conversions
