Top End Speed

Just wondering what kind on top end speed should I expect out my CR500 AF when I get done with the bike running 14/48 sprocket combo.
Why I am asking this where I ride it's normal to cruise around 70 MPH I don't want to be pushing the bike to hard thats why I sold my last CR250 I keep on Blowing it up.
My old ktm 4 Stroke would do 110 MPH easy so 70 was not a big deal for it to hold for miles at a time.

What year engine? With my 90 or 91 70-80 max. Close ratio tranny. 94 on wide ratio, heard stories of people topping three digits.
Wide Ratio

if you cant get the speed out of it you need, just play with the sprocket ratios. these would have no problem pulling 120+ with tall gearing, but obviously with tall gearing comes a low-end sacrifice. play with it till you get something that works for you.

Enter in the primary drive and transmission ratios for your CR500R and then you can play with the final drive ratio and see the effect on top speed. In practice stock gearing 14/48 on tarmac is 80 mph. according to my digital speedo at the (2008 Adelanto GP.

3 digits ? i dont see how. unless your going downhill with the wind. 15/44 is only saying 85mph on my calculator at 6500rpm. maybe they was using madman gears

I know its possible because Robbie Madison runs over 100mph when doing his long distance jumps, not to mention they had the big bore 2t running well above 100mph in the 80's.

The last time I had the AF at the dunes, I could run WOT across the sand and it feels like your going 120 but in reality, about 70 or 75. Just like a boat. When your scooting across the water alot of times your not going as fast as you think you are!

I'll take Stoufers for the win Bob.

Um, my xr650r with a 15 49 set up will 104, so drop the front to 15 and give it a go. BTW 104 mph on a paved road with knobbies is fricken scary as all get out.

I checked the top speed of both of my bikes on sunday with a gps. On a dirt road at 5000 ft elevation. My ttm 500,84.7 mph with 14 46 gearing with a close ratio tranny. My 450 500, 87.9 mph with 15 48 gearing with a wide ratio tranny.

Not saying I want to go 120 MPH I just don't want to be killing the motor just cruising around like I did with my old very Loved CR250 out here in the Mojae Desert it mostly open fire roads that you can see for miles ahead of you and you do just open it because you can.
There some hills nothing hard rocky some places but I stay away from the rocks and cliffs thats anouther story.
I kinda want it Like my KTM560 it can go warp speeds if needed but just cruising at lets say 50 to 70 MPH I not going to blow the motor every couple of months.
I try the 14/ 48 combo and go from there I just play ride anymore.
Yea the KTM was good fro topend but even after doing all kinds of mods to it it still not a 2 stroke.

If the thing is jetted the way its supposed to be,you can run it pinned all day without any worries. Run a 14 -47, jet it and forget about it....

no kidding, even with a 250, proper jetting, running WOT alot should yield new rings once a year, and shouldnt harm the piston at all. if you were launching a motor every few months, something wasnt right.
when i had me KX80, that thing had at least 200 HARD hours on it, every time it moved it was WOT to move my big ass around. it was fast, but it had no power anywhere but WOT. and the top end was still tight after that time ridden.
It was not every couple of months

It just seem that way About every 8 months to a year I put a topend on the bike.
But one of the shop that rebuilt my crank did a very bad job that was a nightmare from the first day I stuck the crank in I rode it about 2 or 3 times before I replaced the crank with a complet new OEM crank after that It ran good for about 6 months then I sold the bike.
