Is running 2 blowers even a good idea? Seems like a waste to me. Alot of shit in your way to look around too.

He must have a piston sponsor! That air'd be almost as hot as the burn as it comes into the cylinder

Maybe if the blowers had rotors in them....

he's probably got the internals stripped out of one of them. Attention grabber/conversation piece

there have been a few twin blower set-ups down here and are running the internals. no point having show with out go
the blowers are only small maybe 6-71 or 8-71
the heat would not be that much more then a 14-71

Compound turbos work well
I have never seen a compound blower set up that worked

I've seen one on a merlin 12cylinder tractor puller back in the 80's, only turned it 3400rpm or so and claimed 2000hp

I don't see the point...you can only fit so much through a hole and the second isn't going to boost anymore than the first...
like bobber said, you can do it with turbos because they are progressive, the more that goes in, the more comes out. blower only turn as fast as the pulleys allow

Thats about 60 feet per second piston speed.... not too bad for a brick

Why? I know turbo's and blowers have been put together successfully with a blower bypass. Why not just 2 blowers? I can understand why 2 of the same size geared the same is completely redundant, but isn't there a way to size and gear them to make them work together?

I suppose if you had like a cvt belt setup it would make sense, but you would still only use 1 blower. its completely redundant to run 2 of the same blower, blowing from the same carbs to the same ports pushing the same boost.
turbos on the otherhand can be setup to combine a small one for low spool time and a large one for big boost, Like what audi does with their bi-turbo setups

If you ever get a chance to see one of those engines apart you'd be amazed, the merlin is nice but the allison engine is something that is only recently getting matched for quality. The crankshaft is lighter than a chevy 350, the piston and rod is a work of art, similar to the newer SRP or JE pistons, and the shit would run forever. The castings for the heads and blocks in the Allison engine are perfectly smooth and tolerences are exact, the head looks like its ported.
In the early 80's the Pulling Power magazine advertised these enigines available from Skip Coulee for 300-600us$ depending on if you wanted a run one, one new in the barrel of grease, and which direction you needed it to turn. I know a few guys here that still have some, i'll try and post some pictures i've taken.

The ONLY way to make the R/R Merlins live at Reno is to put the Allison rods in them.
They are spectactular!!!
