About two months ago my son decided to start running....a lot........ A few weeks ago he ran in an EL Paso marathon race. He did 13.1 miles in 2 hrs and 45 minutes with about 5 water and gel pack stops that were along the way. He was the youngest runner....12 yrs old....out of about 1500 runners. This Sunday he is running in the Trans Mountain Challenge.....a 20k run over Trans Mountain with the first 5 miles consisting of a winding, grueling uphill run with a 1500 ft elevation change followed by a long 7.5 mile downhill to the finish. I guess were not riding this Sunday.

Such a strange sport for a 12 year old to be into. I wanted to take some photos of him along the route, but they are closing down Trans Mountain Road in both directions just for this race, so I have to drop him off on one side and then take a 30 minute drive around the end of the mountain to the other side to pick him up at the finish. Hopefully I can get some pics of him during the race.

I runned years ago half marathons and i was very interested in this kind of races, also in triathlon
I remeber that i read somewhere that is not good for the kids run long races (more than 3-4 miles) because they are growing and this kind of races can damage their articulations
But is better run 3 hours or more with 12years old than 5 hours of playstation

I cant
drive 13 miles without pulling over for a Monster drink, some jerkey, and maybe a can of pringles....

I used to run to school 6miles and home again. I live strait south of town, the bus had to pick up kids 2 miles west (4mile round trip) and 2 more stops on the way to town. If i rode mountain bike i could leave my house at the same time the bus stopped to pick up my bro and sis, go like hell and be within a block of school when the bus got there after it stopped for the highway and railroad tracks.
Tell him now that he's started dont stop!
I ran 2 miles barefoot to the farm almost every day i wasnt in school from when i was 10 til i got my liscence, now i'd rather drive the lawnmower to the garage to get the 500 out.
