dimpling cases

Hi. Does anyone have input on dimpling the main cases between the tranny and the crank? How about between the case and the jug. I have never sucked a gasket and don't want to. I'm getting ready to throw her back together once I get my crank back from STR. Does anyone use yamabond on the center case. I have always used a thin coat of red RVT on the base gasket for cylinder with good suceess, but I don't have a million miles on 500's yet.

no need to dimple. I've never sucked in a center gasket. have w/ a cheapo base gasket, only use OEM or cometic base gaskets. don't use rtv on base gaskets, fuel eats it. yamabond is ok though.

The cometic base gaskets have a steel shim inside them... thats all I use.

Yamabond at the crank to trans. But then mine are slitely missmatched because of a piston frag.

Ive got a left crankcase for a cr250 that is very uneven, I'm wondering if I could mill it enough to make it flat again. Its got a low spot where the crank is. I guess it wouldnt hurt to try.

I tried to do some with multiple different cutters before getting the CBN button, I wouldnt recommend anything else now. It finishes like mirror and will cut even with a load of only .0003" on my Rottler

I always though you wanted some machining artifacts to give the gasket something to hold onto?
Yes / No ?

ive used hondabond but i cant remember if it was 4 or which one but its real runny like syrup. if everything is straight and not warped, you dont need any sealer on any of the gaskets. infact its probly better you dont use sealer with honda gaskets. ive used sealers in the past and they worked fine but the next motor i do, i doubt ill use sealer

You're right, Its RA is a shiny finish, is exactly the process the cases were machined with factory, i'm using "mirror" more to define it not beeing a cut with a trailing ,scraping, or any other mark that can be left by carbide, high-speed-steel, abrasives, or other method.
a better look at cases refaced are:
