TRX250 ignition with lighting coil in 500 motor???

Post by LAYNFRM »

will the TRX250 ignition setup work on a 94 CR500 motor? since my bike is going to be street driven, i need to have a fair amount of light at night, and i saw that ricky stator sells the 200W TRX250 stator. i really like the idea of running that since it would be a whole lot cheaper than the SH setup. i read the entire CR250 ignition thread a couple times, and the quote below was the only real mention of it i saw.

Ported&Polished wrote:Freemer has been using a trx250 ignition and flywheel in his 500 for like 15 years, it works well. That motor puts out mad power and revs to the moon in a fraction of what the standard cr500 does. He used it primarily to have the trx lighting coil.
now, does anyone know if it bolts on? exactly what TRX250 parts will i need? the aftermarket stator is obvious, but exactly what else will i need?

I know a lot about quads and people who race on trx250s change out the trx ignition for a cr250 one. An ESR ignition is basically a cr250 ignition. I can see that a trx ignition would be benefitial for the lighting.
