i use a little wd-40 with the scotch brite and it seems to go a lot quicker

It will also help prevent oxidation from starting.

could also try 1500-2000 grit wet sand paper or maybe 1200. basically what it will do is remove dirt or oxidation and make the finish real dull like the original finish

Mag wheel cleaner and scotch brite works good. Even the etcher for mag wheels on the non coated OE hubs.
