Whats up everyone.

I was wondering how many of you guys out there was running the KX500 carb on there bike. I have a couple spare KX500's laying around and was going to snatch one off and try it. Due to the normal problems I'm having with the stock carb.

I was wondering what base line jetting they were starting out with. I know every bike in different places are different. What I'm wondering is if they started out with the stock KX500 jets and went from there ,or did they use the same jets as the cr500 carb an go fron there? I don't want to just slap it on and be totally off right off the bat.I just stuck my brand new piston on my brand new engine on don't want to do it twice.

Also does anyone know what size the old quadzilla 500's carb is? I have a couple of those also and could rob one if it's worth it.

Quadzillia's came stock with at Mikuni 38 mm flat slide. (POS carb if you ask me, I have one in my toolbox for sale)

I am running a 1995 KX 500 on both my CR500's. (When I worked at a Kawi Shop, some guy bought these for his ski-doo and never picked them up, they were brand new)
Pilot = 52
Needle stock in the 2nd position
Main 168 (depending on weather)
I'm at 3500 ft, fuel mixture is 40:1, using VPC12 diluted to ~100 octane
Note* I'm using the stock slide, but I could use a leaner slide (need one with a higher cut away).
Idle screw is turned all the way in

The Kawi carb in question is a Keihin 39mm PWK.

Came on other bikes too, like KTM 2 strokes.

Great Carb.

I'm running one on my gen-4 came off a '96 kx500, you need to shitcan the jets and needle though. you need a richer main, leaner pilot and a way different needle.
I'd start w/ 45 pilot, 172 main and dgn needle 3rd clip and fine tune from there.

You need to use a 1368 needle and I think its a Honda only part you can use an old one from a CR (PJ fits PWK)
175 main pilot depends on how you drive (slow stuff go 45-48)
normal 52 is ok.

That'll work, but I freaken hate that needle, if you get it to stop pinging at 3/4, then its fat at 1/4-1/2. Bobbers DGN (1472) works tits, get it from Sudco

The 1472 needle is a little lean for me I run a 1470 needle $.02
I had a 1471 needle in my bike at AZ and it was a little lean for my taste.
I run a PWK 39.5 with a 1470 50 175

What ever you do, don't run whatever Brit was running, it was like riding behind a chemical plant! my eyes were watering from the fumes and everytime he gassed it a big ol' puff of smoke would come out

The only thing I can find in the sudco cat. is 'DGN/017-027'

What is the 1472 thing all about?

its just different ways to list the same needle. its technically a 1472N the N signifys length which is the same as the G in DGN D signifies a 14 taper N signifies a 72 width a CGJ is a 1368n a a DGL is a 1470n, etc.
