Street Legal???

Post by Travis »

Not sure where this should be so I will ask here. Who would be able to explain the laws for your state about street legalizing a bike. I know most of you guys know what it takes for Cal but what about Kentucky? There are litterally only a couple bikes that are street legal and they are enduro type bikes. I can ask anybody and hear something different from each of them.

go to the dmv, chances are you will get the best answer.

I live in Az now and when i moved here i saw that people had quads, side by side's and dirttbikes street legalized. When i asked a guy on a xr400 about it he told me you just had to do the conversion, headlight, taillight, tires etc. So you can imagine my surprise when i go to register my bone stock 1989 cr500 and see asks me if i want an offroad only or a street legal plate  . I ask her about having to convert the bike first and she says no you dont have to "but if you get stopped/ pulled over on the street you could get a ticket"

Michigan has their vehicle equipment requirements posted on the secretary of state's website. Check with your state website, they probably have a .pdf document or something posted online.

4strokes.com has a great little diagram saying what each state needs. Look under "documents" or something like that

NV is cake, you have to have the lights and stuff, then some old lady inspects it... done deal  I was planning on making my gen-4 street legal, but the wifey put her foot down... I guess too many funerals to attend for people wrecking on the street :?

That is where I am now. She has given me the story about "You don't know how much I worry when you are out riding, not to mention if you were going to be out on the road." So I guess I will leave it alone for the time being.

Thanks for the information though.
