1981 CR450, "the Grandfather"

Post by Roostius_Maximus »

So, just throwing this out to the hoons for advice.
I have a complete 450 engine thats decent with kicker

A friend wants to sell his 1981 cr250 which shares:
reeds
exh flange
pipe
carb
stator

and other items according to the microfiche

I can the 250 for $200cdn, its very rough, trans is slipping in 2nd, drum front brakes are toast, but i have tripples and forks from an 84 125 with disk brake wheel i could put on the bike.

Anyone have experience with these bikes?
you hoons think sinking $450-500 into this bike that i'll likely never ride is something worth dooing?
I know ive been a talker about getting this chassis and other components to finish it and now i have the chance and need a lil push to make it happen

Is there much of a difference between the 450 and 250 chassis in those years? It would be kind of neat to have an original 450. Some kid around here said he had a 450 or 480 for sale with a blown motor. I would like to look at it, but I haven't seen him since fall.

I seen the 250 chassis but it was early last summer when I got my kids 1981 Z50 from the same guy. And I should have paid more attention to it.
Its at a farmsite between home and work so I'll stop in this week.
If it can mount in the chassis clean I'll likely get it.
I'm expecting sprokets and stuff to be screwed and that big I.D. back one might be getting hard to find.

If I ever look at it, I will send you pictures. If I find it, one of us should buy it.

Clean it up spotless and proudly display it in the living room.

That's what I will do someday to an '83 CR480. Maybe even rig up an exhaust outlet through the wall so I can start it up and rev it Cheech and Chong style.

k, so a different 81 250 frame fell into my hands, it was engineless, but that much easier to tear down. The 450 fit directly in the frame, same mounting bolts and all. now i need some stuff, reed, boot, pipe, stator (have 250 cdi) the parts can be 250 or 450/480
