Complete ignition from 97-99 CR250. I bought it but never used it, and I have no way of testing it. The seller said it came off a running bike. $60.00 US funds, plus shipping.

i wonder if thats a digital cdi ? what do you think that stuff is on the back of the cdi ?. why didnt you try to run it atleast once ?

That looks like it is the rectifyer for the lighting coil.

It's supposed to be digital from what I know. I haven't even had my bike running yet, it's still in pieces. I don't know what that stuff on the CDI is, Maybe a voltage regulator?
To make this fit on a 500, the center hole in the stator plate has to be made bigger.

I suppose there's going to be a surplus of 250 ignitions for sale
If it's a '97 it should be digital. Sure looks like it to me...

Its the regulator....For the electronics on the carb......

ya, '97 was digital and all that extra crap is for the electric powerjet and to regulate the input voltage for the cdi since it is digital.

I thought it was for the turnsignals...

...but will it work on a 500? I dont think there was any certainty in Mick's thread. If it will work, I am interested. Shipping to 90024?

There is a spare set of wires that go to a sensor on the carb. I don't know if the throttle position changes the timing or the RPM changes something on the carb.
I was thinking if the timing is varied by the throttle position, it wouldn't take much wire in a switch and a couple of resistors to change the timing curves.
If anyone is interested, I'm sure $10.00 will cover shipping.

damn it, how many times do I have to say it, '97 and '98 had an elecric power jet, TPS didn't come in until '04

What is a power jet? I am assuming those two extra wires open a valve to give it extra fuel under certain conditions?

I have a vacuum powere power jet on my mikuni, during extended periods of WOT it lits more fuel in to avoind a lean condition. a 2 stoke can't be held WOT for very long without seizing unless you have a powerjet.

Thats not true at all......
I've gone 1/2 the length of El Mirage dry lake.... pinned.
Get the right main, and needle, and your all set.

x2... I ran 1.5-2 miles pinned at 8500-9000 rpm and the motor lived to tell about it.

well, let me rephrase that... to run an ideal main jet for the best possible throttle response would leave to lean as all fuck by a certain rpm and sustained WFO, a powerjet allows you to run a %20 leaner main, so she is crisp as fuck even at super low rpms being slapped open and the powerjet starts delivering when vacuum is created after the slide.
My gen-4 runs wfo like crazy on a 170 but she'd run freaken awesome on a 135 main with a powerjet

but, both of you do realize that you may not have gotten dangerously lean, but you are leaning out any 2 stoke holding her open... it really takes a lot of abuse to damage them though.
I'm not pulling this out of my ass, DeWayne and I had a 2 hour long conversasion about it and I have a feeling he knows a thing or two

talking from your 125 experience - lol
So back on topic - will this setup work on a 500?? Or would it just be better to get a 94-96 setup?

Nothing is going to be as easy to swap than the 94-96 stuff. And provided how well it works it's hard for me to entertain the thought of using anything else?
However...
I haven't read a good review on the digital systems. It could be those 97+ ignitions work sooo good it's worth the pain in the ass to mount them. I've read a number of guys say they run the digital systems, but don't have much to say about them? So I say someobody try it already and provide us with decent feedback. I'm a grunt so I like looking at pictures, if whoever would be so kind as to make a graph like I did, it would be greatly appreciated

Exactly...that was one of them I was thinking about. I guess I'm just stupid, I need lots of pictures and drawings etc. That thread just doesn't tell me anything. Actually, I'm a little confused haveing just read it now
