Holy Hell! In a truck I don't give it a second thought, but when I'm on my 650L even seeing dogs on the side of the road gets me thinking a little.

I was reminded of this...

On August 3, 2006, Cristiano's [de Matta] [Indy] car was involved in a collision with a deer that ran in front of him as he headed towards turn 6 during Champ Car open testing at Road America. He hit the deer with his right front tire, the deer then flew back and hit da Matta in the cockpit. It is believed when the deer hit da Matta in the cockpit, he was knocked unconscious. He remained unconscious with his foot still on the brake when the safety crew arrived and extricated da Matta from the car. Da Matta was then airlifted to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, Wisconsin, where he underwent surgery to remove a subdural hematoma. Following the surgery, da Matta was placed in an induced coma, to allow for the swelling to subside. As of August 7, da Matta was making "slow but steady progress", while the doctors were working on reducing da Matta's level of sedation.[6] This slow recovery was confirmed on August 9, as it was reported that Da Matta was able to move "all of his extremities spontaneously as well as in response to physical stimulation". On August 20, Da Matta was transferred out of intensive care. On August 30, Da Matta was confirmed to have made steady progress, conversing in English and Portuguese, and walking short distances. On 21 September 2006, Christiano was allowed to leave the hospital after having recovered better than expected.

...hitting large animals at speed is bad for your health.

I used to drive an F350 dump truck to deliver mulch. I had a buck come at me from the side of the road. It jumped and cleared the hood, but because I was doing 65+ mph, it came right through the windshield and layed straight across my lap and the full width of the cab. I was lucky enough to avoid the hoofs.

A freing of mine hit a deer on a sportster and piled it into the ditch, somehow he stayed up til getting stuck in the mud, ruined the bike and he walked away

In a 1/2 ton If you hit a deer fast enough it just pops. I hit one at 100mph, there was an ear and a hoof on the road, the rest was a mist and it didnt do a thing to the truck

I loved seeing that video a couple years ago, but looking at it now don't you think it's a little strange NOBODY on the road reacts to the deer??

I mean I'd a been grabbing a handfull of brake and rubber necking like crazy if I saw that! Nobody in that video even so much as turns their head :?

Good point. I noticed that but didn't think much of it. No one even puts on the brake. But if you look, it is behind the guy infront of the camera man, and behind the guy it's jumping over.

The camera man doesn't even turn his head! Watch closely, the guy in the red shirt looks left after it crosses in front of him. HE'S the lucky one.
