ok guys, so I'm getting the motor together, but in the mean time I'm trying to budget and plan. The car has 3 different brands of mastly bald tires, so the tires have to go. I want a really good handling tire that will last me longer than a week
right now I'm thinking the
yokahama S drive 245/45zr17 $129ea
or
dunlop sport maxx 245/45zr17 $156ea
what do you guys think?

How long they last on a car like that is entirely up to the driver. I had buds that went through new tires in a week, and brake pads in a month. But that's how it goes if you are into power slides, reverse 360's followed by full throttle burnouts while sliding backwards for 75 feet etc. This one guy I helped shoe horn a big block into a 240Z, drove faster than anyone youve ever seen, but he went through tires and rear axles and other consumables like Brit goes through an eighth of chronic.

ya, just one more reason I'm leaning towards cheaper tires. I burned through a set of dunlop sp8000s in about a month mostly from random trips down the ortega highway
I leaning toward the yokahamas, a reputable tire, sticks like glue, middle on wear, cheap and I haven't heard a single bad thing about them.

Consistant fast trips through the Ortega Hwy. will not only wear out the vehicle, but it will eventually end in a horrific crash. I used to live in Lake Elsinore and drove that hwy. daily. Lots of people die there.

ya, I know, scarry stuff. I had some friends who lived on both sides of the highway. My friend chelsea lived in SJC right where it ends, and there were always emergency vehicles hauling ass through

how do you like them? how has the wear been. from what I have read the falkens wear quickly and the kumohs (sp?) have a tendency to develope bulges.
