I found this, N. Gerogia is pretty close to home. I like the looks, I have to have a friend go look at it and inspect it, check compression ect. ect. What do you guys think? Good deal? Im gonna talk to the bank tommorow and find out if it would be a go on the money side. Let me know what you think. Heres the ad and a start video.

A 1st gen bike isn't worth all that much... $3k, maybe?

I buy and sell older dirt and street bikes quite a bit, 5 or 6 a year, and I watch the local ads all the time. I hate to talk value when the builder is a fellow member, but IMO $3000 is too high. There is a very small market for a bike like this, and most buyers view any modifications as a negative thing, much less a transplant. Most riders are also terrified of the legendary open class bikes. IMO as a general bike enthusiast and not a CR500AF owner or builder (yet), $25-2700 is a reasonable asking price, but don't get your hopes up for it bringing more than about $2200. I have no delusions of breaking even if I build an AF and then want to sell it.

Looks nice, but 2500 max imo. Figure a bike like that is worth 1500 in that condition with a running 250 engine. Then a 99 500 engine is around 1000, add 500 for the mods, subtract 500 for the 250 motor when sold. So 2500 is right, but you can add a few hundred or subtract a few hundred depending on little things.

But yet 01' Steelies will bring $2,500 or more in parts of the country outside of CA, AZ. I don't know, but I hardly ever see the deals you guys find out there as opposed to the MW or the Eastern part of the country.

Thanks for all the help and responses guys. Im gonna offer him 3000, I think. Maybe a lil more than its worth, but cr 500s are hard as hell to find on the east coast, much less af framed ones in good condition.

Search on Craig's List by using crazedlist for multiple locations. I looked today and there are listings in the Mid Atlantic, South and Florida. Gen 1 AF listed in Florida right now for 2700.

Yeah, its my bike I hope to get $3000, I am bidding on Mik's AF on ebay now. If I don't get Mik's bike I have a 2005 CR250 with a bad engine, and I have another 1999 CR500 engine to go in it. :P

Mik and I talked several times before listing our bikes on ebay. I did not have $4500 cash for Mik's bike with out selling mine. :(

You and Drinky Chinky need to hook up and discuss a deal since he wants your bike.

Little things like frame mods, nice new plastic, the best graphics kit, rebuilt forks, shocks, new tires, chain, sprockets, pipe, hand guards, steering & wheel bearings, brake pads, new levers, new seat cover, new sparky packing, 60 hours build time, 10 cases of beer, nagging wife, barking dog, busted knuckles, etc.
