Ohh I'm sure he is just a product of his environment. Life can be frustrating in CA due to the influx of foreigners. It can feel like it's impossible to get away from them. You can't drive 2 miles anymore without being inundated with towel heads, gooks, hispies etc.. It's also possible that the man has little if any formal edjucation, making him ignorant of how horrific life was for the poor folks that endured the Nazi regiem.
