What do you guys use as a case splitter? I'm not too hot on the idea of spending a ton on the Motion Pro tool, but also want the right tool for the job.

Thats the one, you can fine 'em real cheap at any auto parts place. Its called a steering wheel / pully puller.

10-4. Thats what I was thinking would work, but thought I ought to ask, since I'm getting ready to try it for the first time.

the one I use is a bit beefier than that one,I think its says its a harmonic balancer/puller,but any steering wheel puller should get it done no prob

I paid around $15 at Autozone for the puller pictured. A couple bolts/washers later and I was set.

scrap metal, and a bolt. Scavenged from the shop at work. Cost me nothing but a bit of my spare time.

The penny goes between the bolt and the crank end, so the crank doesnt get all beat up.

You're gonna need the tool on the left in the top picture to put it back together. It pulls the crank INTO the main bearings rather than trying to press the cases ONTO the main bearings. I know a lot of people that have gotten away using the case bolts but there IS a reason Honda makes this tool. The tool is 3 parts and is about $100.00. The first time you crack a case half, you'll wish you bought it.
