Im wanting to build a drag motor for 300' sand drags. Who builds a good motor and what carb, pipe will i need. Any one use one of these 48x58.5mm carbs?
http://www.cpcracing.com/site/256083/page/190735
Who makes a good inframe or out of frame pipe? My motor is ported 196 -128 now but i have a new cylinder to send off if the builder wants to start fresh. What about putting in sub exhaust ports(tripple exhaust) and getting away far a bridged port?Im open to any suggestions on combinations and builders.
What about swing arm length and tire selection?
Im also looking into getting my tranny cut for a 1-3 override.
My combo now is a prodesign cool head with race gas dome and a bored 40.5mm pwk carb on av gas(will be going to methanol),above porting,pc pipe. It only runs 5.00 in 300' im wanting atleast a 4.2 bike if not quicker.

i think you already asked this question on the other board and a few shops were suggested. but anyways ill answer what i can: i dont see 1-3 tranny being enough gear but maybe for you it is. im not running a overide but if i do in the future im going 2-5. not saying cpc carb isnt good but ive never seen them, all the fastest bikes ive seen use lectron and some smaller banshee motors use keihin but a 41mm keihin aint nearly big enough for 500cc on methanol, im using 48mm lectron on mine, i think lewisclan is using 44mm lectron on his. i dont see triple exhaust being possible on cr500, this thought has crossed my mind before and ive looked and i cant see theres enough room but maybe someone could manage to do it. definatly you should ditch the PC pipe and have one made so it works better with those port timings because 196* is way up there and regular pipe wasnt designed to work good with those big of numbers, for your bike it will be a one off deal and they need the actual bike right there in their shop to jig up the pipe....unless your right down the street from a pipe builder then plan on driving along ways. there a place in utah and california that makes custom drag pipes, there also might be a couple more around the country im not sure. i dont know what to say on the bridge other than i left mine in for safety reasons... when you start widening the port and going up to 196* your going to have a huge hole and honestly i dont see where you will have massive gains by removing it but to each their own and best of luck if you decide to remove it. i know some guys remove their bridge and maybe it works great for that particular application. swingarm length will be something you just have to figure out, are you 230lbs or 140lbs, is your motor 60hp or 90hp ? im going to start at +4 or maybe +6 on my swingarm and dial it in from there

Thanks for the reply. I think i will start off with a new pipe but it sounds like i will have to go to a out of frame pipe for fitting reasons. I already have two of these carbs but i will have to make a intake no biggy unless some one make a big intake.
Something is holding it back cause my buddies stock kx with a narly pipe is faster. Who makes custom methanol domes for a cool head?I guess i will try one of the drag pipes off my banshee out cause its ported 200-130 so maybe thats worth a try to see if thats whats holding it back.
I see gss makes a nice swing arm are they the only one making swing arms?

you can only override 1-3 gears in the 500 4&5 run the wrong direction
pete loomis makes swingarms

I have had GSS and PL swingarms the GSS can be ajusted shorter than Petes both are very nicely made

making a inframe pipe is no problem, ive seen it done and i will be doing the same thing. a straight intake to fit the 48 lectron is already available but will hit the shock if your using 2wheel chassis. theres a guy from another forum that had connections from a place to make angled intakes, or you could make your own if you have the machinery and knowledge. i had dennis packard cut my alky coolhead dome but other guys could do it if you know the specs you need. ya your bike aint running right if a stock KX beats it, you must have serious problems. ive owned and raced against kx500 before and i wasnt impressed with none of them
