Found a Truck on Craigslist...

I came across this listing and thought OMG that is cheap so I emailed the guy. If this is not a SCAM I will be suprised. Here are our emails and a link. Tell me what you think. They start at the bottom and come up chronologically I just copied and pasted the latest reply I got. The listing is no longer on craigslist either. One picture shows a vin number too and after some internet searching I think the truck actually belongs to a guy in TN.

I'm located in Fort Shafter an US military base in Hawaii getting ready for Iraq, the truck is here with me if you can come to pick it up will be great, if not shipping is not a problem, because is included in the price.
Address and pickup info;
Capt. Andrew Christian Mitchell / [USASOLS] United States Army Special Operations Logistics Squadron
U.S. Army, Pacific Attn: APPA Building T100 Fort Shafter(in Honolulu), zip: 96858-5100, HI.

Shipping info; It will be shipped by plane with US Air Military Cargo because I have some connections with US Airborne Division and the shipping it will not cost you anything. You will get it to the nearest airport in your area and then it will be trucked forward to your home address. It will take around 2-3 days until the vehicle will be delivered to your home address. All documents, title, manuals and bill of sale will be provided along with the car.

Payment info; For the payment I would like to use eBay's buyer protection plan as a third party . They will keep your money until you get the vehicle and will release it to me after inspection period is over and you agree to keep the vehicle .

To eliminate any concerns you will have 15 days to inspect the vehicle before committing to buy, eBay will release the funds to me ONLY after inspection period is over and you agree to keep the unit.

I'll start the official procedure, and eBay will contact you about this. If you are interested in buying it just e-mail me back with:
- Your Full Name - Required by eBay (You'll receive important guidelines + instructions from them.)
- Your Shipping Address and Phone Number - Required by the Shipping company (They will call you with delivery/pickup instructions 1 day before arrival of parcel)

Again I want to point out that because I am going to Iraq, I am after a fast transaction, with no delays. That is why I decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer as soon as possible.

Thanks, hope to do business with you soon!

Where is the Truck at now? Why did you remove the listing from craigslist?

Hello,

This 2004 Ford F-350 FX4 4WD Lariat Crew Cab 6.0L Turbo Diesel, runs and drives excellent. Its unbelievably clean and excellent condition. The price that I hope to obtain is 4500$ with shipping and handling included. I am selling the truck because my platoon has been sent back to Iraq and I have no use for it anymore plus I want to buy another car in several months. The price is low because I need to sell it before Oct 20th.
You will not have any problems with registration since the vehicle is still registered in Texas and meets all environmental regulations in the US, there is no need to pay any additional taxes, just only the price for it. You will get from me the manuals, keys along with all the additional documents needed for registration.
I want to take the opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% legitimate, the financial part of this deal will be managed by the eBay's buyer protection program (They are acting like a third party in our deal). Which means that you will have a 15 days inspection period before buying the vehicle.

If you want to complete the purchase please send me your; Full Name and Shipping Address and I will notify eBay that you are selected as my buyer and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.

Please email me ASAP if you want to move forward and let me know if you need anything else.

Click on the link below for more info & pics about the truck.

Can you send me some pics of your truck? Is it automatic or Manual? How many miles does it have? I would like to see pics of the interior all sides and in the bed if possible. Also does everything work properly or do you know of anything that doesn't? Does it have a hitch, gooseneck ball, or 5th wheel hitch?

Thanks,
Travis

Editted to add Poll and Maybe option. hehe :)

Do you have a link for ebay? I've bought 2 powerstrokes on ebay from Texas and just made sure it was a real business and checked their feedback. Sounds too cheap though. But, times are tough.
The only problem I had with one of the trucks was getting it shipped. Pay extra for a reputable shipper.

That price is impossible. Look up the same rig and the prices are always over 13,000 unless it's been wrecked. If it was real, that would be the best price ever, shoot a 2000 would be 9 or 10 grand.

Hell for 4500 without an engine it would be a deal Danny. If the guy were legit. I cannot believe that someone would let a truck go that cheap. Did you guys check the link and look at the pics?

If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

In the car business there is a term that is used.....it's "Caveat Emptor" or to the Latin challenged......"Let the buyer beware".

If the guy is willing to let you put the money into a third party escrow service you should be safe. Thats the way I bought my CR500 off Ebay. I put the money into escrow, and they would only release the money to the seller after I recieved the bike, checked it out and gave the escrow people permission to release the money to him. If I were you I would try to find a history of the vehicle first to make sure it wasnt stolen.

You could always ask Alohar1 on the board to go check it out. I'm pretty sure he lives in Honalulu.

I am the one who posted a maybe.
I reread it. I believe it is a scam.

He's a CROOK and is using the US Army as a front and our respect for the military as a soft spot!!

PM sent.

The only thing that comes off odd is the website he uses to take a look at the truck. the .com.tl sent a flag up in my mind :D
