The Best Idea I've Heard so far

I LOVE THIS PROPOSAL !!

I’m against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I’m in favor of giving $85,000,000,000.00 to America in

a We Deserve It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let’s assume there are 200,000,000

bonafide adults in the U.S.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman

and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a

We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free.

So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.

That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.

A husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?

Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved.

Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads

Put away money for college – it’ll be there

Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs.

Buy a new car – create jobs

Invest in the market – capital drives growth

Pay for your parent’s medical insurance – health care improves

Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks

who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company

that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we’re going to re-distribute wealth let’s really do it...instead of trickling out

a puny $1000.00 ( “vote buy” ) economic incentive.

If we’re going to do an $85 billion bailout, let’s bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG – liquidate it.

Sell off its parts.

Let American General go back to being American General.

Sell off the real estate.

Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

Here’s my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn’t.

Sure it’s a crazy idea that can “never work.”

But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion

We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC.

And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

as if that will happen but it felt good reading it.....

I would buy a house, and an AF for the 500. Then pay off all debts and put the rest back for the kids college expenses. Then after they went to college retire on the remainder. Sounds awesome.

I'd pay off the cars, the house and have enough left over to buy some land at BLM auction to have a little ranch with a couple tracks!

See now that would be a good idea for one of the presidential candidates to employ. Talk about a land slide victory for the dude that pulls that off.

Total package is 700 billion.
What are the revised numbers? How much for each US citizen?

I don't know what it would work out to, but it would sure stimulate the hell out of the economy, I'm for it! But they'll give it to the bankers who already squandered it away. Mabey if we all spend our money recklessly, like all getting rid of our CR's and buy KX's, the gov will give us all money to buy a gen 5 and do a conversion on it just to put us back on "track".

Maybe I'm missing something but my calculator says $85,000,000,000 divided by 200,000,000 is only $425. But, I rather get $425 than give AIG $85 bil.

You are correct. I thought it looked wrong, but didn't bother to look closer.

Let's take the real $700,000,000,000.00 / 200,000,000 = $3,500.00

That will only make 2 of my mortgage payments. A far cry from paying it off. Kinda takes any wind this idea _may_ have had away, no?

Kinda like in "Office Space" where the guy writes the program to siphon off the fractions of a penny but ends up with $300k in a couple of days - "I always have problems with where to put the decimal point." Image

Doug, hate to continue to pee on this parade but 1 billion is 1000 million or 1,000,000,000 so you were correct in the original post. Now, if we're talking 85 trillion, then the numbers would work.

A billion in england used to be a million million (I think) :?

Nailed it :D

billion
In British English billion has traditionally meant a million million. The American meaning of billion (a thousand million) has become standard in technical and financial use, and it is now better to use it in all circumstances.

1,000,000,000,000
1012 The original meaning, started in the 15th century, was "a million of a million" (1,000,0002 which led to the name billion), or 1012. This system, known in French as the échelle longue ("long scale"), is used in most countries where English is not the common language.

I am wrong...from Wiki Answers

In the 'short scale', which is used predominantly by English-speaking countries, a billion is 1000 million:

1 000 000 000

So there are nine noughts. The 'long scale' is used elsewhere, and in this system 'one billion' denotes a million million:

1 000 000 000 000

...which has twelve noughts. Of course, if you want to add decimal places (e.g. for currency) then there are as many zeroes as you see fit.
