ANGRYSHAWN's 04 CRF250X Conversion info

So i am doing my #6 build, the first 250X attempt for me after doing 3 450's and 2 250R's (my personal favorites) and now this scooter!
Heres my query, the motor sits to the left when the chain is already to the right of the swingarm alignment so i think i will flip the sprocket supermoto style but that IS basically what i'll have to do to get the cases centered and the chain aligned and the swingarm squared up....so from stock i only need Alisos magic stock part number for the left spacer or i can just make as shim for the left side.....and actually to center the motor i will have to take a little more off of the right spacer to get the sprocket aligned when it is flipped and all this to get the exhaust port centered with the down tube!!! pics anyways hoons!
Image

need teemtrubble welded head with bitchen manifold to use x tank or get gnarly with the heat gunnnnnnn!!!
Image
shorten right side till left side looks like this, then make a shim!

NOT FLIPPED YET, See the offset difference if you look close on the sprocket! :D
Also i think i will whack the big big headstay wad off and mount one pickup bolt straight inline so i can just use flat strap instead of trying to tweak the offset in my straps to use the stock mount......!

Right on bro! Just let me know if you need the manifold I just did a run of them or if you want me to install and weld one in for you. 805 306-9840

i am only doing the motor and pipe and rads/coil, My bro is doing his own ignition, airbox, carby, tank but with your head spigot this X tank would need minor work and maybe even leave the x fuel with reserve instead of putting a motoX "R" model fuel outlet, but i'll forward him the number so he can send you his head once i finish the groundwork and then he'll be trail ripping this green sticker bastard ALL YEAR EVERYWHERE in kalihelldmv! Thanks Mike! Hooons Ruuule!

My soultion was to use Gen 3 250 bushing, but right on the left, and the left on the right...

Graves.... Chime in....

On your idea to move the H/S block, look at the tank.

Its molded to fit around the block in its offset position.

I had the same idea, but decided against it as it looked like more work, not less.

hmm

I used 808's bushing and the stock headstay was the perfect offest with some cutting and drilling needed.
I releived a notch in the lower cradle on both of my gen-4s and chain alignment, headstay alignment and everything else was perfect. I don't think it really matters if the motor is centered between the swingarm as much as everything else lining up. Go check out my build. where I releived the cradle, I stuck some solid stock in after grinding the top of the tube and part of the weld off, then welded the solid stock in there and hit it with a drum sander to get it prefect.
The gen-4 frame is cake! The airbox, gas tank, hose routing, etc. are the real PITA.
I just don't see a need to make more work for yourself. buy the cr125 bushing and modify the stock headstay and save quite a number of additional hours.

I would also get a R petcock, since the petcock area was where I had to apply the most heat. On my bike I'm using a shorty plug, but on marshalls bike I was able to use a std plug, but did accidentally get a couple pinched folds that lead to some leaks that I patched up with some plastic.

BTW, I used Bobs part number bushing on the right and that long one that is currently on the right got moved to the left. that gets everything lined up.

cool

alright well i appreciate that, i dont have time to wait for honda swingarm parts, so i sanded the right a tick and added one spacer about .280" thick to the left side of the swingarm.... the only reason i want the motor centered is so the exhaust clearance looks symmetrical and proper with the centerline of the handmade Y section, which i weld out by itself before i weld the motor tabs....so it cant pull or whatever...
anyways i appreciate the advice and the idea of saving time is great but wheni have 8 hours in the Y by itself im not to worried about going the extra mile for a "signature" build....anyways a couple more pics, got the Y welded up today so tomorrow motor mounts and pipe, i already cut off the headstay so i could change the location and i only run one bolt hole pickup at the frame and one at the head with 1X1/4" flat strap..... this isnt triangulated but a little flex cant hurt these rigid bastards plus if that fails you'll have much more pressing issues obviously so thats just my style...
anyways, welded up, motor tabs and doubler plates tomorrow (love em or hate em , they've worked for me in all 6 other builds so im fine with it......handmade "works" Y and welded doublers , not "factory" lookin' on purpose although I AM NOT TRASHTALKING factory lookin' builds by any means!!!!!) anyways i also discovered (when i opened my eyes) that the radiators only have one top hose on the left side compared to the 450 and CR250R radiators so it looks like Teemtrubbles head mod is pretty mandatory if a builder is using 250F/X radiators unless you want to add a spigot to the top of the right one and melt your tank to hell!!! Save one for us Mike, although i think we'd prefer you do the installation and welding.....more on that later!
AlisoBob/DannyG!!!!!!
A. where/what do i have to weld to relocate this coil as it obviously wont fit inside the shroud~under the tank like in all my other 450/250R builds....
B. My bro has an fmf with a long ole Q silencer.... any tips or ideas worth mentioning before they get the saw???
please advise......10-4 thanks again hoons for the support and advice!

here is marshalls silencer
Image
I welded a small 1/4'" stock strip, then drilled and tapped it with a M6 and used a stock cr500 rear pipe mount on the rear of the silencer. came out nice and there is plenty of room for a Q. Plus since I angles both motors so far forward all the exhaust lined up well and I didn't have to modify any of the exhaust.
here is how I did the water hoses w/o modifying the rads. I used the cr500 oem upper hoses and the crf uper rad hose and a '02-'04 crf 450 water adapter which was the perfect diameter for all 3 hoses.

started modding stock headstay

started airbox with lexan

headstay before cleanup

coil mount location done with 1/4" strips and drilled and tapped

CDI

wiring before cleanup, only 2 coil wires were lengthened

my silencer all mounted up

another coil shot

finished marshalls airbox using gen-1 125 boot (best fit for R subframe)

i couldn't tell you if this coil location would work for a 250x, but i really like the location here...it's completely invisible with the tank and shrouds on, and it's nice and close to the plug and cdi box...just had to extend the one coil wire...and not by much...

thanks guys

THATS where i put the coil on all my previous builds (all R models) but for the "X" tank, it won't work..... hence Bob's mile long coil wire....just teasin Bob..... i think Aliso's solution is the way to go with the X models....

I hope that the butt connector was used just to get it mocked up and running and that you went back and soldered and shrink wrapped it. Those butt connectors run a close second to Scotch locks for connection problems due to corrosion.

Not trying to bust balls, but those fockin' things piss me off and I have had multiple issues with them.
