Man, long cold winters and a dry storage unit have been good to that bike. I assume it's a 490, prolly faster than shit! :o

1981 YZ465H? If the forks are smaller than 43mm - 1980 YZ465G. The tank decals are not OEM. Have Dwayne Jones do the suspension and go racing!

My brother has a 1979 YZ400,,,,unfortunatly they only made that motor for 1 year so parts are hard to come by for his bike.

title says 1980 yz465G. i asked the guy i bought it from today and he says the bike is more or less just as he rolled it off the showroom in 1980..minus the rear sprocket he put on to gear it down for mountain trails, new tires, and he tore off the "465" stickers for some unknown reason :? . i found a pic of another 1980 yz465G and it looks identical to mine with the exception its white plastic and red tank decals....i assume the white plastic model was 50th aniversarry edition ???? at any rate, i only paid $200 for it  ...theres one now on craigslist 95% original for $3100 obo

In 1980 the tank decal was a vertical speed block design. The 1981 had a swoosh. Most people don't empty their tanks and consequently the gas evaporates and sweats the OEM decals off. If you were to keep the bike you can get perforated replacements that cover most of the tank and will actually stay in place.

In the late 70s and early 80s, North American YZs were yellow, but those sold in Europe were white with red/black highlights. I had two buddies in the airline business who had their yellow bikes shipped to the UK from Kansas and because they were the only yellow ones in town made a killing at re-sale time. Today there are Euros who collect up white YZ parts and ship them in the other direction for US collectors who want something a bit different.

Hopefully your heart wins out over your head regarding selling it on!

interesting. the owners manual shows a sticker with 1 less vertical line. looks almost like 250 model sticker what do you think ? the guy specifically said its all original plastic but he made no mention of changing decals, he might have put the wrong one on i guess. i have almost no knowledge of yamahas but ill find out  . google searching this bike does no good because all the bike pics ive found have varying tank decals, and the white european model has a different sticker as well. damn im confused

side note: owners manual shows "1" on the number plates. none of the internet photos ive seen have that "1"...whats up with that ?

No, the 1980 had the horizontal sticker just like the one Clyde bought.

My bad I got my 1981 mixed up with my 1980. Anyone remember whether the Canadian bikes were white or yellow?

Noodling on this I realized I have raced a 1978 YZ125E and YZ250E, 1979 YZ400F, 1980 YZ250H, and 1981 YZ250H and YZ465H. And never owned a YZ yet.

it is an '81 465H with '82 plastics. I sold it for $400 as you see it there. That thing was a 50 hp lightswitch with a serious detonation issue. No thanks. fast though.

http://www.vmx.livewire.gen.nz/magazine ... 1YZ465.htm

also, did ALL the bikes in 1980 have "1" on the number plates or just some bikes ??
