hi, im from the uk, england, want to convert a crf450 2007, can anyone give me advise, on this conversion please

Theres several completed 450 conversion bike threads to look through. Most were done slightly different from each other.
Your task?
Decide which you like best, and get going on it.
Our site is slightly different than most. We dont get our jollies holding someones hand to tightly.
That said, if you start on the project, their are plently of members to help guide your way.

all im trying to do is figure out the strongest method, without haveing a new y section made longer to compensate the cut... been told the frame may split/crack if i cut and insert billet bits then reweld? any advise on this? i presume service h have new y made?

there are quite a few conversions done here that have the extensions "billet bits" welded in place along with the Y just cut out and moved up in the cradle. All of them seem to be holding up very well.. Havent heard of anyone mentioning theirs cracking. IF done right it can be just as strong as stock if not stronger

you need to use 125 swingarm bushings, you need to make up a headstay of some sort...coil location (is easisest mod), Exhaust mount locations, Rad Mods (either 250 rads or a Y piece to connect the 450 lower spouts, Airbox mod, (everyone has a different method), and you deffinately should re-use your Y piece from the 450 cradle...it is SO easy for an experienced welder to cut, place and weld...plus the 07 has a 1'' tubing cradle...which makes it so easy to attach a 1'' 6061 aluminum tube to make the extensions...

I live in Preston,Lancashire and a local alloy welder(who does paul birds wsb bikes) did my frame mods.
It's an 03 but the mods should be same.
His welding is pure art and worth every penny..
It's the original 'Y' moved further up with the cradle extended up to meet it...spot the joins
finished bike....

The GEN 4 450 is one of the easiest to mod. The Y is very easy to re-use and IMO is as strong as when it came from the factory.
We used solid 1x1 for the extension, but if you have a really good welder and a source of tubing go for the radiused stuff.
