If you're anal like me and don't like crooked cuts on your hoses, get a pair of PVC cutters from Home Depot. I've cut fuel, vent and coolant hoses with them and they're perfectly straight.

I never tried the straight cut tin snips but, due to mental defect, can't cut straight with linemans pliers or side cutters.

The thing I like about the PVC cutters is that the hose is supported on both sides of the blade resulting in a perfect cut. It's also really easy to line the hose up at 90 degrees to the blade.

random tip for the anal retentive:

put a hose clamp on the hose, and use the edge of the clamp as a guide for your razor/boxcutter/pocketknife/whatever

not as quick and easy as the pvc cutter, but it does make a square cut.
