Any ideas where I can get a decent kick stand for a Gen 1?

I'm not a big fan of the swing-arm mounted versions...I prefer to mount it behind the foot peg.

are the holes for the pegs different? if they are not then all he would need is a pegs and bracket and kickstand from a 250x or 450x. might be able to find it on ebay. just a thought. why wont it work?

oh ok. now I see. so that mean it won't work. so what your saying is the holes in the frame where the peg brackets mount are different? cause that's the only way I see it won't work. thae brackets between the 250x and 450x are different but the mount holes are the same.

The CRF---X frames have the lugs for the mounting bolts cast in place and as such, the kickstand for these frames isnt going to fit anything else.

First of all happy independance day to our colonial cousins. ;-)
Anything will fit, it's how much time and/or money you want to spend making it fit or work, that's the deciding factor. The NASA pen is a great example of engineering a solution to a problem that isn't there.......................... ;-)

That was a terrible soultion.... Parker Bros. spend a ton of money to make that pen write in zero "G"....

The Russians had the correct solution, they gave the Cosmonauts pencils....

Simple as that. It's the best, and it's worth the money. Just do it!

I know, that's the funniest thing about it, Truck load of dollars to to the same job as a pencil. I'll bet it was a product of 6 sigma (god bless it!) & the team involved got promoted for it! LOL

Anyway back to the stand, a simple "L" shaped bracket which can be bolted to the frame via the footrest hanger can be used to fit the stand if you have access to a machine shop & enjoy making things, otherwise Shanman is spot on.

From 2004......
AlisoBob wrote:Well, I got my P.M.B. kickstand, but it wasnt a pure bolt on... ( 1997 Steel Frame)

Honda doesnt know that P.M.B. is counting on the chain roller lugs to be positioned perfectly. As a result my kickstand didnt fit ( the holes were too far apart on the kicker). I reamed them slightly and things lined up well enough to get the bolts in...

However, when in the stowed position the "foot" was close to the rear tire at full suspension travel. I put two washers under the upper mount and that moved the foot close to the subframe upright and out of the way. I sent a email to P.M.B. to see if these are normal problems...

Other than that, I'm real happy with it. The bike is very stable when on the stand ( MUCH better than the triangle!!)

The attached pictures show the spacers, and the final position of the "Foot" when stowed... ( My god does my bike look filthy!!! Should have washed it first!!) I'm refitting the frame guard so it can go back on. Ill post a picture showing the final install.

Ratings.....

Quality A
Fit B ( considering placement of the mounting lugs are out of their control)
Function A
Value A+

Overall a solid "B+"

Update! (1-10-04) Rode today...from the moment I unloaded the bike, stopped on various trails, then washed it and put it away that PMB kickstand was simply a joy to use. Say NO! to the triangle!!

I'm raising my rating to an "A"..this is a must have item!

Washers stacked behind the upper mount moves the "foot" away from tire

I showed Rob how to snip the frame guard, and slip the mount underneath......clean.The HEX head bolt needs to go, and be replaced with the proper countersunk one....

Then again, neither did a 500 motor into a aluminum chassis........yet here we all are, making it work. I got a stand for a different year CR250 02-06 and it's soooo close, I think I can make it happen.

I'll let you know.

DAMN IT'S HOT TODAY !!! 92F

There is a guy that just posted a PMB kickstand on the supermotojunkie site for a 450. He wants 85 bucks for it. He also has a oversized tank for it.
