Alright so I was going to put a new top end in my 89 cr500 motor and when pulling of the reed cage I saw a dime sized chunk missing from the piston skirt. Now the cylinder was alrgiht and so is the head. I did have it bored but I'm going to open up the bottom end and make sure no pieces of metal are down there and replace the bearings and seals. While in the process I would like to strip the black paint from the cases, what should I use? Anything specific?

Try aircraft stripper - that may work ok.

I sparayed the whole thing and let it sit for 10 mins then went at it with a wire wheel on a grinder IN SHORTS with no shoes or socks, lemmie tell ya that stuff stings like a MOFO. At 11 at night I jumped into a 50 degree pool faster than superman could

HAHAHHAHAA!!!!
shit, we should have a comic strip on the shit Brit does!!! HAHAHA

ya, aircraft stripper works, I personally like bead blasting it, I just blasted one motor, I got a 2 2" plugs from HD and plugges the trans vent, put it in my cabined and after about 30 minutes (mostly waiting for my crappy compressor to catch up) they looked like shiney new castings

I used Jasco paint remover with a paint brush on mine it ate the paint right off. The only bad thing is its a little messy and that stuff is strong must wear good gloves or your the skin will be falling off when your done.

cool thanks guys, thats what I was thinking about using. Now comes the hard part-splitting the cases and reassembly. I had a hard time pulling the jub off, I think it has never been opened before, so I had to hit it with a mallet and it finally came off. Anything I should do so the jug goes on easier when I reinstall it?

It SHOULD require a mallet or somesort of asian persuasian to get it off. You want the dowels snug...

If you can get it beaded, DO IT!! The motor will look BRAND FRIGGIN NEW...I beaded mine a couple YEARS ago and it still looks tities...
