Good to see you over here, slayer.
You too, Mike.

Looks like it'll be one sweet build... Don't remind me about the rules, I'm still worked up over that last episode.

My buddy who bought my 86 asked me yesterday if I want to trade the 125 engine for the 86 engine,he wants to put that 125 on that 86 steelie :o ,I'm not really sure what to do :? ,I want a newer engine for my build but then again I could do the build with the 86 powerplant and I could buy a newer engine at a later date and bolt it on,I already got a conversion set lined up with shanman just waiting for a price,If i fix and sell the 125 a good chunk of that cash is gonna go towards shipping it to whoever buys it so this seems like a good deal.I sold him my 86 for $2000.00,paid 700.00 for the 125,1100.00 after shipping,I don't know what to do???????????

I have no idea why your buddy wants that 125 engine over the 500, but I'd go for it, my gen-1 has an '86 motor, and it was a little more work to convert, but still ended up nice. Plus you've gone through that motor, anything you buy might be a basket case... trust me, I know.

what makes it more work to convert?

the swingarm bolt bushing need to be turned larger, or replaced with newer ones. The waterpump hose touches the newer pipe, intake boot needs to be swapped for '89+ along with kicker and pipe.
otherwise its all the same.

But with work it is completly doable right, and am I correct that the only welding is for the front mounts?

not for the 125 frame, the 125 frame requires a whole different cradle setup. the 250 frame only needs front mounts.

What do I need then?

some square tubing to reshape the cradle, front mounts and 1/4" aluminum sheet to make some front mounts and a sawzall :D

you'll need to hack out the lower portions of the cradle to make room, then recreate the cradles to closely match the geometry found on the 250. Once you've done that, and have the engine fixtured using the swingarm bolt and the lower mounts (assuming those can be used), you can use the engine to final-locate the cradles and the engine mounts. Tack all that up and then finish weld the whole thing.

Easy peasey!

Bummer should of been a 250,is there any documented procedures for doing it?

I'm dealing w/all the cradle issues of a 125 as well. I would have done a 250, if I had a 250 to start with. The 125 was cheap, so I'm less behind in the $$$$ game. I'm doing all the fab work myself, so it's a time issue instead of a money (paying labor) issue.
I have the engine mounted into the swing arm and a temporary bracket at the head-stay. I have the whole cradle cut out from below the foot pegs up to the down tube. There's no way the 125 (dual radius) cradle would work, so I'm now building a new one.

It's good to listen when the experienced are talking. Mine'll eventually get done, but a 250 roller would have been the easier route.

I haven't done a GEN1 125 and don't have one to look at or else I would try to help.

There are guys on the other site that have done the 125 conversion...and SH's Limited Edition was a 125 based bike as well. Although, for all the shit he took off this site, AJ is not likely to be in too much of sharing mood I'm guessing.

Shan wasn't SH"s LE a GEN3 125?

I wonder if he could just get a 250 gen1 frame and swap everything else over. I know it kinda sucks to lose the 125 handling while not having the superior 250 suspension, but it would definitly make for a much easier conversion. A gen1 250 conversion could be done in less than a day, the 125 frame will take weeks IF you have the right resourses and tools.
this guy lives on the top of the world, so he can't really cruise by his local metal supply place and pick up some square tubing.
There is a '98 cr250 frame on ebay right now for like $140.

That is exactly what I was thinking,I won't have a problem chopping the frame up & even getting the tubing,I think I remember shanman saying hes got lots but getting it all welded back together correctly is my problem
