I have my 85 together, it runs like a scalded cat but the ratchet mechanism does not disengage all the way. If I push the kicker forward it disengages completely.
I have had it apart a couple of times and have studied the parts picture, can't get it to work!!!

there is a little punch mark on the spindle that has to be lined up with a punch mark on the ratchet piece. that may be your issue.

The spring also goes bad

I have had luck grabbing that shitty spring and stretching it out, then cramming it back in. still working great
