Fork oil capacity, weight, brand

I need to get my fork seals done. Does anyone know the capactiy for oil, what weight, and a suggestion on brand of oil I need for a '94?

Don't know the capacity, but its #5w and you'll need two qts.

This is what the manual says....(no more no less)

Minimum - 534 cc or 143mm height
Stock - 567 cc or 110mm height
Maximum - 576 cc or 101mm height
Pro Honda SS-7M recommended which I assume is 7-weight

...and I recommend AMS-Oil because its makes Service Hondas easier to start.

I use ATF in my forks its 7wt. whats your weight and riding style, use that to determine the weight and amount of oil to use.

Hey redrocket are you sure on that my manual shows 620 min to 655 max. ? that is a 89 OEM fork spec but 89 to 94 are the same are they not?

My service manual says the same thing as redrocket190 for a 94

I'm about 260. riding style isn't too crazy, no big jumps or anything.

because of your weight, you might want to try a thicker weight oil and maybe running a little more in the fork.

Yes they do make a 10W.

4545 Lamb Blvd. #C however if your not a dealer they won't sell it to you from there. Sorry it's just the way they do business.

You don't need 10wt fluid 5-7wt fluid correctly sprung will work better just add more fluid. I wouldn't run 10wt oil but, what do I know... Iggy I want to order some oil call me when you can.

Yep 10W not recommended for hondas. Adding more will stiffen them more. I found out the last time I had seals put it. Definately more oil is in there, I checked the clickers before I gave them up, then rechecked after getting them back. Went to Perris and ended up going softer by four clicks.

A 260lb rider doing trail/enduro riding needs a 0.5 kg/mm fork spring (stock is .392) and a 6.2 kg/mm shock spring (5.2 kg/mm stock). Don't confuse using a heavier weight oil as a substitute for the correct spring rate. Raising the oil height will reduce bottoming out.

Dont be afraid to play around with weights... Ported / Polished thought he needed a complete revalve for his forks, instead he put in some heavier oil... and really liked the result.

Oil is pretty cheap.
