Man , I've been talking about this for a loooooooooooong time.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ceramic- ... enameZWDVW
We sell ONLY the very best USA-made Aerospace grade ceramic balls.
Ceramic ball is tremendously harder than steel (Rockwell 78c versus Rockwell 60c for steel balls).
Ceramic ball is 60% lighter than a steel ball.
Ceramic ball is much less prone to "skid".
Ceramic ball is significantly rounder and has a finer finish than conventional steel balls.
Operating temperature for ceramic is 2000 degrees F. versus 600 F. degrees for steel.
Vibration levels of ceramic hybrid bearings average two to seven times lower than that of steel.
Service life is two to five times longer than conventional steel ball bearings.
Someone tell me why I shouldnt?

How many times have you worn out main bearings and HAD to replace them?
A set of OEM replacement bearings cost what? Service Honda sells em for $22.20
Lets see now....
$22.20 * 2 = $44.40
$255.00 - $44.40 = $210.60
$255.00 / $44.40 = 5.74
.
.
.
.
.
um.... because they nearly
6 TIMES more expensive!!!!!
That's $210 (a shitload) of Black Ice beer there Bobber.
.... or do you need that extra .0005 horsepower?

I'm just curious to see if there is any improvement.
I'm going to buy an extra motor and go through it. My present motor ( 1997 vintage) has never been split.

Not built as a firebreather, but as the best example of what a CR500 engine can be.

Bob since when do you care if someone tells you, you shouldn't?
The only thing is an OEM Honda main bearing is $16.69 each opposed to $255.00 plus is where the bidding starts and with Ceramic bearings they'll last but the rest of the internal components won't.
Otherwise it could be bitchen and I believe I have a supplier...

I just got a quote :
Bob,
The complete kit for a 1997 CR500R is $495.00
It would take a few days to round up all the crank / tranny bearings.

I don't see how you could go wrong. Price? Well, it's more than stock, but less than case halves and piston rods when stock bearings blow.

Not unadulterated, bling is purely cosmetic... where these bearings do offer some advantages.
Service Honda wants more just to powdercoat a frame.... at least these offer some hope of performance.
