Decided to do away with all this silencer packing nonsense and installed one of these.


The exhaust goes in the right side then has too go back out those small holes on the left.I tried it with just the baffle and the end cap that has a 1.5'' hole.It was quieter, but still had that little snap and pop once in awhile. Power seemed too increase with shifts into fifth lifting the front a little more. Next I made a turn down pipe out of 1.5 exhaust tube. It's about 5'' long with 3'' of it going into the baffle up to the 3rd hole.I drilled 10 5/16 holes in that 3'' to help with flow and also kill more sound. Now with the down pipe there is no snappin' and poppin'.Even reving the bike up and down you don't get that little backfire.And the power? I was surprised too find myself doing all I could just to hang on to the bike. It was a rocket before and is even faster now.
So what is this baffle out of? My friends Harley Davidson! Delaney had these old chrome shorty pipes that he was getting rid of. He was surprised that the baffles were in the pipes and said take them. Actually it was more like do what ever you can too make fukin that bike of yours quieter! Now it is a lot quieter with no decrease in power. I'll post a complete pic tomorrow.

Here is a pic of the stock insert with my first down tube.Like an old glasspack from the sixties the straight through design doesn't do much for canceling noise.My new setup is quieter and the bike runs better.Tomorrow I plan on welding the end cap to the down pipe at work just to make assembly less complex.

These pics will clarify how my system works.The baffle goes in like this.

Then the pipe and end cap finish it off.The leading end of the pipe actually only reaches the last set of holes in the baffle.

This is how it looks put together.I going to experiment with baffle position later and see what happens, but I think with it at the end of the canister will produce the quietest results.

It may not be pretty, but it's now no louder than my buddies stock KX 175 and runs even better.Total investment is only like $8 for the pipe.
