I am in the middle of a gen III w/91 500 and was wondering if anyone has ever cut the headstay mount from the frame and moved it over in line with the headstay mount on the head in such a manner that straight pieces could be used as headstays? I have mocked it up and cannot see any interference as far as tank, carb, shock etc.........Comments please?

I just got done doing my offset headstay mounts and thought the exact same thing. I think you are right. I bet it would work without problems.

Honda offsets it for a reason.... The "Z" style is much stiffer.
Shan is going to make this available in steel very soon.

I made mine the "Z" style, but made them out of aluminum. I figured the factory made them that way, so I will follow suit. They know more than I.

Shan is going steel to be cost effective.

I agree, the factory did do it for a reason. I was thinking possibly to allow some flex for the lighter 250 until I read Alisobob's post. By the way Dpindet I used your technique for the Y and downtubes, pretty slick idea, thanks.
