ive seen a couple 86-88's with black plastics, like UZI's 86' for example, where do you find plastics for the pre 89's? i looked at maier and acerbis with no luck although i havent gone as far as calling them, i dont like ufo plastics because of fitment issues but if that ends up bieng the only option then so be it. ide like to white the bike out but black will do in a pinch.

i have a complete other set so i thought of doing a real good plastic paint job on those to see how it would come out. i painted the front fender on my 350x with a paint and primer for plastics called "fusion" from krylon i believe, it turned out well and even took a hit from an almond tree branch and didnt chip/crack.

A few years ago I painted the side panels and front plate on my 86 with blue Krylon Fusion and it held up great to tree branches and spills in the sand.

It also took this beat plastic from this:

good deal man.. that fusion kicks ass huh. i was sold on it when i test painted an old 500 fender and after i let it cure for 24 hours i went out and bent the fender and it bent with it, pretty trick for spray paint

maier makes the old school plastics. isn't as tough as oem and the holes need to be drilled, but the stuff looks good. I used it on my 125 back in the day, it was an '87.

I'm not. Probably will rattle can the frame and thats about it. It really wasnt that bad to begin with. Your old bike looked like dog poo when you got it IIRC. So it needed a lot of TLC.

Ha
Mine is actually an 85 frame but has an 86 motor. Anyways mine is actually coated with truck bed liner, I tried the plastic spray paint stuff but it didn't hold up. I do a lot of tight woods and rock riding with the 85' and I would just scratch off the paint. I've been pretty happy with how the bed liner has held up. Except for on the tank you just can't get it to stick there. The gas fumes seep through and make it bubble up. Other than that you can't kill the stuff I've even got it on the seat cover. has yet to rub off and is very flexible.
