so i took apart my reeds to check them. boyesen rad i guess. the petals are carbon fiber. the piece they lay on looks like it was white but is discolored now. so anyway on the back it appears that boyesen put a coating to keep them from slapping apart then they hit the cage. well mine is all old and flaking off. im gonna get new reeds but dont know which ones to get. can someone point me in the right direction. thanks

If you want to swap the lot, for bottom end the Vforce cage rules, for top get the boysen rad valve.

As for reeds get the most expensive, you get what you pay for in that dept

I have the carbon pro's in mine and after a season they still look peachy.. I have the rad valve as well and when i bought my bike it had the cheaper opaque looking ones and they were ripped to shreds.. So far so good on the carbon fiber ones :D

just got off the phone with boyesen and I guess I had a older style pro series in there. got a new set on order. the carbon reeds look good to go but the "rubber" sealent on the opaque ones were old and chipping off a little. better to buck up and get a new set rather than have pieces of the glue shooting into the motor.

when reeds don't seal bad things happen... consider it money well spent!

oh yeah I got carbon fiber everywhere even on my reeds son. bling bling. haha on a serious note for you guys in the future ordering replacement reeds for you rad valves the old part number for the pro series is pro-50 it is now psr-50. so if you try t order them from anyone but boyesen and they say that psr-50 is not a good number try pro-50. same part just boyesen changed the part number.

just curious but looking at the simplicity of reeds why do they cost so much? just for fun I might make some set out of full carbon fiber

why does a 4 stroke exhaust cost $500? because they can! and all the more to them, I would love to be someone who gets to make something that costs me a dollar and have people beg to give me $20 for it. :D

I hope you know what you are getting into, dont forget that "tension" is very important, and its going to vary depending on many factors...

GOOD LUCK!!

very true but the reeds are different thickness. both are readily available in sheets on the net.
