Clutch question.

This afternoon i was installing my clutch to find i was one plate and friction disk to short according to my manual, 7 friction disks and 6 plates. To clear things up a little when i was pulling the engine apart i broke the clutch center, that was an expensive and frustrating little lesson. So i ordered a new clutch center for a 1998 model as i have been led to believe that it is a 1998 model case. Although now, after a little investigation, im fairly sure its an 1989 case. So what i need to know is do i need to take the clutch center back and change it for one to suit an 89' model. In other words, do 89' model clutches have 7 friction disks and 6 plates instead of the 8 and 7 stated in the manual?
Thanks.

Yes the 89 and down engines take 7 discs and 6 plates. The 90 and up take 8 and 7.

Thanks a million for that, appreciate the help. I guess someone was a bit backwards with their year models, or just a really good bullshit artist.
