I received a new cylinder and head from SH this morning. I opened it up, and the cylinder liner is coated with a yellowish orange substance... what is it?

I would guess just some sort of grease to prevent corrosion while its boxed up on a shelf. Kinda like with ne brake rotors. I'd just hit with with some carb or brake parts cleaner and install

Brits looked the same way from Clyde.... Brit tasted it, said it was dried "Baby Batter"...



Seriously... leave it on until you need to use the jug. Once you take it off, rub the cylinder with premix oil.

It would be a shame to rust it , before you use it.

It's not ready to install yet... It's headed for GSS early next week.

Then leave it on, it will protect the finish while its getting ported.

The stuff is most commonly referred to as " cosmoline"... even if it isnt.

its just a sealer they put on, otherwise the bore would rust like crazy with atmosphere moisture and people handling it. leave it on until assembly time
