sooo.. today i geared up and went to go for a ride after having fixed my barfing carb problem ( thanks Bob and Paul). i made a wfo pass back and forth on the canal then hit an orchard that a few of the local guys have a "track" cut around and through, its pretty sandy and deep in some spots so i was riding the clutch a little to keep from just peeling out, when i got to the end my bike was blowing steam and water from the overflow.. like mad i know going slow and slipping the clutch are 2 heat builders so i putted to the road and rode around the corner to home and killed it. after it cooled off i looked in the radiator and it was full.. WTF?
I Called stoffers and he suggested i check to see if they were clogged, BINGO.. the right one ( with the cap ) couldnt be blown through without force and water wouldnt pass through on its own without major pressure and even then it just slightly dripped through. Following Pauls suggestion i soaked them in CLR ( NOTE: limeaway was what i had on hand and tried first.. it sucks, CLR owned limeaway today) the left rad was only slightly gunked up ( calcium buildup at the bottom, looked like seasalt) and cleared out with just one soak and rinse out, the other took 3 hours to get it to where water was flowing, it was still only halfass so i am letting it soak overnight then trying to blow it out with the hose tommarow.
im sure everytime ive ridden my bike its been close to death.. i bet the surging and loss of power is from overheating and i just hope i didnt do any substantial damage to anything in there. my bike is all torn apart again as of now, i painted the frame and subframe ( subframe off but frame with all the powertrain still attached.. i know its halfass but its just gonna get screwed up again) and will be putting it back together in the next couple of days, anything i should watch for that would be a sign that i did some damage by overheating it? assuming everything is ok i bet its gonna run alot better when all back together.
