A Few 2nd Gen Questions

I'm about to pull the trigger on my '01 CR250 build and have a few questions. Thanks for any help.

1. Does the pipe have to be modified? If so, what has to be done and why?

2. Which spacers do I use? I have some from an '02 CR125. Is that what I need?

3. Will the '00 airbox install on my '01? I've read I need the '00 boot.

4. Umm, hmm, uhhh....I guess I forgot the rest! Hah! I think I have everything else almost figured out. Can't wait to start. Any other tips for the '01 250 to make it go smoother?

Not time for pics yet. I just need to find some more info before I start. It will probably be a couple of weeks. Two responses and no help!

The rear mount on the 500 pipe needs to be cut off and moved up about one inch. Once the motor is mounted in the frame, the rear mount of the pipe does not line up in the stock 250 spot. You will also have issues mounting the silencer. On mine, the rear mount lined up but the front missed by about 1/4 inch. You can have the tab on the subframe cut off, moved and rewelded. That is some of the easy stuff.
Spacers. . .There is 10m you have to make up. I made my own spacers and I believe one side was about 5.5mm and the other was about 4.5mm. I cannot remember which was where.
I think the 2001 airboot will work. I believe that is the one I used on my Gen 2 conversion. If it doesn't, then definately the 2000.

Good Luck and post pics once you get started.

1. Does the pipe have to be modified? If so, what has to be done and why?
Yes, because it dosent fit. The rear tab for the mid-mount is the issue.

2. Which spacers do I use? I have some from an '02 CR125. Is that what I need?
Yes

3. Will the '00 airbox install on my '01? I've read I need the '00 boot.
Gen 2's are '00 & '01... it should

4. Umm, hmm, uhhh....I guess I forgot the rest! Hah! I think I have everything else almost figured out. Can't wait to start. Any other tips for the '01 250 to make it go smoother?
Measure twice, cut once.

I'll probably measure 6 times and then cut. I know the 2nd gens are 00-01 but I wasn't sure if I could just bolt on the 00 boot to the 01 box or replace the entire unit...then I realized it's not mating up to a 250 engine anymore....niiiceee!

$500 for the motor
$50 for the carb
$50 for the electronics
$100 for the pipe and silencer

NICE $500 roller you got there!

Yeah, I figured the complete engine with carb, harness, etc would bring $700-800. There's an '01 motor on Ebay right now with nothing on it going for $680 with a few hours left...doesn't even have a reed valve! Maybe get $100 for the exhaust. So, possibly a $300-400 roller!

Do I use a 250 or 500 silencer on this '01? Do any mounts on either bolt up or does everything have to modded?

not sure about the mounts, but always use a 500 silencer. the 250 silencer pipe is a smaller diameter.

How will that extra restriction affect the power delivery?
