I'M FROM SOUTHEAST TEXAS. I'VE BEEN AWAY FROM MX/DIRT BIKES FOR ABOUT 20 YEARS. I'M FAT OUT OF SHAPE AND LIKE TO DRINK TOO MUCH BEER. I STARTED MY SON RIDING/RACING ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO.

I'M THINKING IT'S ABOUT TIME THAT I STARTED RIDING AGAIN AND I REALLY DON'T WANT A 4 STROKE. I SAW AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE SH 500AF. NOW I HAVE A BAD CASE OF THE WANTS.

I'M HERE TO EDUCATE MYSELF ABOUT THE DIFFERENT COMBOS. SO, WHICH FRAME IS BEST FOR THE BEER CANS? 125, 250/450? GEN 1,2,3 OR 4? I'M BETTING THAT THERE'S PLENTY OF CONTROVERSY OVER THAT.

Hello and welcome! :clink:

If you are a bigger rider then the 02-04 450 frame is really nice. That's what I have and I love it.

thats not too big for the other bikes. The Gen3 bikes are supposed to be the best combo of handling and ease of build. If I were to build one again, I'd go with a gen3 or gen4. you aren't really heavy enough to worry much about which will handle the weight, all of them will need a respring, but you should be ok.
BTW, Welcome! :D

Howdy BD, where at in SE Texas? I saw your post on houstonmotocross.com; thanks for the backup. I've got a '02 CRF450R conversion that I could let check out to see if that's what you're looking for. 'Bout time another Texan showed up; I was startin' to wonder if I'm the only one in the state with a CR500.

I lived over there in the Golden Triangle back in the late '70s / early '80s. Graduated high school and went to college at Pecker Tech (Lamar U.) I've been thinking about coming over to Beaumont to check out the track over there. It'll probably be next month before I have an opportunity due to work and travel; but, I'll send you a message and maybe you could come up to check out the 500.

where did you go to high school? i went to TJ, graduated in 82 and attended lamar as well. that sounds good, i hear it's a pretty good track. but, they've been rained out everytime i've taken my son out there.

Graduated from Snuff Gully (Vidor) in '79 (don't admit that too often). Got an AAD in Electricity and Electronics from Lamar in '81 and moved to Houston to get a good paying job. Moved down to League City in '84 and have been here ever since.

I also have to take my hat off to all you hoons who can do circles around me when my dad won't even drive his truck on a dirt road.

See what you have to look forward to?

I'll be ridin' until I can't afford gas, they quit making premix, or the guys in the white coats lock me up.
