What size rear rim do you all think is better 18" or 19"?

I'm curious what others have to say about this also. I have a 19" on my AF and 18" on all of the other bikes. Last time I was at the track with the AF and one of the steel frames, I actually felt a little more comfortable all around the track on the steel frame and not sure why. Both bikes have the suspension setup identical and I was wondering if it may have something to do with the rear rim size.

The 18" has a ton more sidewall.

If you are a pro riding MX track or freestyle I would probably say 19"

I gave all my 18" tires away with a 500 roller I had a while back, otherwise I would probably give one a try on the newer bike. (if I had a rim)

i've got a 17" on my 1978 yz250. the guy i got it from was a bob hannah fan and hannah rode that set up for a while.

My AF is the first bike I've ran with a 19" rear. And I've actually grown quite fond of it. Switching to a 2.5" wide rim makes me like it more still. Pulls the sidewalls out some, puts a larger contact patch on the ground. Feels like a 18.5" rear if you ask me.

The 18" rear is a no questions asked required item on the West Coast. And if that's all I rode I would sure as hell laced one up. But I don't find the sharp rocks, roots and hard pack on the East to really benefit from an 18" I feel.

Plus I kinda believe the rubber you use makes the most difference anyways.

That's a surprising response. I feel rocks and roots are the number one reason to go 18" wheel. Bigger sidewall means fewer pinch flats and if you run a soft sidewall tire (I love trials tires and S12s) then it increases the tire's ability to to wrap around the roots/rocks and find traction.

I'm saying I haven't seen a rock or otherwise flat inducing rut in Florida the entire year I've been here. Loam, sand and clay pretty much cover the bases.
