headstays, engine mounts, etc.
Just a heads up...I am having another run of parts made...which should be available in about two weeks.
Gen. 1 kits will be available through Danny Graves until he is out. I will have loose sets of engine mounts, head stays, and swingarm spacers should somebody want/need those pieces but not a whole kit. I am also making a billet Y piece to solve the coolant hose routing issue for Gen. 1.
I will also be doing the gen. 3 headstay.
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

of course! BTW: not to be picky...but technically, your bike is more like a gen. 5 or even a gen. 6...I believe gen. 4's are really first generation CRF450R's.
The answer is still yes of course. LOL.

Ol' DeWayne looked over the gen-1 kits and that was his only complaint. he said "it'll vibrate like a giant tuning fork with the one sided headstay" and he is pretty much right. I'm going to make my own "custom" 2 sided one and see if it makes a difference
Although, he thinks what we're doing with the a/f DIY conversions is awesome and he had some nasty things to say about SH... can you imagine that...

Dewayne was telling me the same thing. I wonder if I could fit two in there...I really believe my bikes smoothness can be partially attributed to the two sided headstay.
Shanman - any idea if the Gen1 will cross over to Gen2?
The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...

you're gonna have to make a custom headstay anyway for your gen2. but it will be really easy since all you will need is 2 flat peices, then cut and drill. should be cake. The gen-1 chassis has tht off center mount for the headstay that makes it such a PITA.

I need someone to send me some sample covers so I can revise my models. I did those originally before I had my CMM, but I would like to recheck the dims and such.
If someone sends me some covers, I will quickly measure them and ship them back ASAP. After that, we can decide as a group what you guys want them to look like.
BTW: my though on a two piece head stay setup for gen. one is this: I think they should be made from steel so they can be kept as thin as possible, easily formed without stress cracks, and either made from stainless steel or carbon steel and powder coated.
Tank clearance at the head stay is at a premium for gen. one...particularly if you want to run a desert tank. I think having to do the least amount of tank modification is the best plan of action. To that end, I want to weld studs to one of the head stays so I only need to account for the width of one set of nuts/washers. FWIW: this design will work well for gen. two and gen. three as well. In fact, the finished product would look like this:

the engine mounts will work perfectly for a gen. two. I never got a chance to design a gen. two headstay, unfortunately. If somebody got far enough to get the engine mounted in the frame, with the swing arm bolt, lower and front engine mounts bolted in and snugged up and got me a hole pattern and offset, I can whip up a nice headstay design.

what about a higher capacity one like bob was talking about with a relief machined into it for the break pedal, like the stock ign covers. I think the would look pretty cool too.
