I have a 1995 CR500. This was the one year they went to the 43mm kyb forks. I am 100% over these forks. I've rebuilt them 3 times, a local shop once and a fork specialist did as well. The seals always leak and the bushings get stuck when pulling them apart. I don't want to mess with these forks anymore! Rant over LOL!
My question is. I want to put a 1997 to 2001 cr500 front end on it. That would give me 46mm forks. This day and age finding the triple clamps or a front end (clamps and forks) for a 97-01 seems almost impossible. Anyone got one for sale? I'd be down.
Next alternative per conversation with local shop, is to find a 92-96 cr250 front end or at least triple clamps and steering stem. Then peace the rest together which isn't an issue for me, if necessary.
My next question is. Will the 250 front end fit? Is the stem length compatible? Will the bearings and races work, or can you at least get the needed parts? THE MAIN QUESTION. Is the offset the same and fork length similar? I don't want to mess up the rake a trail.
Sorry for the long post but love the bike and its handling. Just hate these damn kyb forks. I get really OCD over think this. Thanks for the help!
