Reed Stop Gap

Post by stubeedoo »

Hello, I have an 85 that I've recently bought some boyesen reeds for to replace the originals. On removing the reed cage I noticed that one of the reed stops had an 8mm gap and the other an 11mm gap between the edge of the cage and the inside edge of the stop.
The new boyesen reeds didn't come with the small rev plate to replace the original stops as after contacting boyesen they told me "we found that for this application (1985 Honda CR500) the reed stop was not restrictive and should be used with the Boyesen dual-stage power reeds" but they couldn't tell me what the reed stop gap should be and my manual doesn't list it. If i increase the 8mm stop to 11mm then that stop hits the inlet casting and the cage won't sit in the barrel nicely.
Does anybody know what the gap should be?
Am tempted to make my own rev plate and not have the original stops.
Any info is much appreciated.

Regards,
Stu.
