Lieutenant Dan’s new Legs

Post by OldMechanik »

Got real tired of dismal performance from the original but shop modified CR forks so I grabbed the front end of of a 98 RM125. The swap was super easy. I ordered a top bearing and race kit from All Balls then serviced the forks with new bushings, seals and oil. The change over was easy as I didn’t have to change the stem. Put it all together and rode it. The tire sucks, so a new one is already on the way. By the way, it’s very important to use the Suzuki bottom clamp as it’s stepped to allow full travel of the lower leg. A standard flat style clamp will cause wiper/seal damage. I did keep the RM brakes as it was just easier than swapping and bleeding. They actually work pretty damn good.
Lastly, I’ll be honest, I’m not sure of differences in the offset, rake and trail geometry between the two bikes but it still carves a line like a typical old CR and doesn’t head shake at speed. 👍🏼✊🏼
